As parents, educators, and community members, understanding the unique vulnerabilities teens face regarding substance misuse is essential to effective prevention. The following films and documentaries provide critical insights into how prescription pills, THC, and other substances specifically impact adolescent brain development, decision-making, and long-term health outcomes. These resources illuminate the particular risks young people encounter—from the accessibility of prescription medications in family medicine cabinets to the misconception that THC products are harmless. By watching and discussing these films, adults can better recognize warning signs, understand the current landscape of teen substance use, and engage in more informed, meaningful conversations with the young people in their lives about the serious and often overlooked dangers they face.
Operation Parent is a national nonprofit that exists to empower parents (and caregivers) to fully engage in ongoing conversations with their K-12 children about technology, substance use, and mental health issues for purposes of prevention. Our evidence-based parent handbooks and free monthly webinars raise both the awareness and confidence needed to jumpstart these conversations.
