As parents, educators, and community members, understanding the unique vulnerabilities teens face regarding substance misuse is essential to effective prevention. The following films and documentaries provide critical insights into how prescription pills, THC, and other substances specifically impact adolescent brain development, decision-making, and long-term health outcomes. These resources illuminate the particular risks young people encounter—from the accessibility of prescription medications in family medicine cabinets to the misconception that THC products are harmless. By watching and discussing these films, adults can better recognize warning signs, understand the current landscape of teen substance use, and engage in more informed, meaningful conversations with the young people in their lives about the serious and often overlooked dangers they face.
The Youth of Burnett County Prevention Coalition (YOBC) was formed in June of 2022. The founding members are community leaders from law enforcement, all three school districts, the medical community, 4H Extension, the St. Croix Chippewa Indians of WI and other community organizations. In their daily activities, they could all see the areas of youth prevention that were not being addressed and together they formed YOBC. This newly formed coalition is striving to create a prevention-focused culture among community leaders, youth and parents/guardians.
YOBC has participated in:
Facilitating a resiliency speaker for all 3 school districts in April 2022 , April 2023, April 2024
